Asian Shares Retreat After US Air Strikes in Iraq
Stock markets in Asia fell in Friday afternoon, erasing early gains, after the Pentagon said it carried out an airstrike in Baghdad, killing at least seven people, including a top Iranian commander, at the direction of US President Donald Trump, and heightening geopolitical tensions. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost 104 points of 0.36 percent lower to 28,493, at around 01:16 PM. India's BSE Sensex declined 133 points or 0.32 percent to 41,494, at around 11:09 AM India time. The Shanghai composite dropped 8 points or 0.27 percent to 3,076, at around 01:20 PM China time. Also, Taiwan's TSEC index shed 22 points or 0.18 percent lower to 12,078, at around 01:16 PM China time.
